Walt Disney revolutionized the film and art markets, and in the 1930s, he took on the consumer market with the development of the all-encompassing marketing program. Every Disney film, beginning with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, has included a complete marketing campaign, and the successful marketing of Disney characters has brought beloved characters into our everyday lives.

The latest exhibit in Special Collections & University Archives, “Walt Disney, Impresario of Consumption,” looks at Disney’s marketing strategy from the 1930s to today using publications, artifacts, and ephemeral materials produced by and about the Walt Disney Company. The exhibit was curated by UCF students in Dr. Keri Watson’s “The Art of Disney” class (ARH 3888).

The Special Collections & University Archives’ exhibit space is located on the fifth floor of the John C. Hitt Library. The exhibit will be up through January 6, 2018.

Saturday, November 11, 2017, is Veterans Day, a day to gratefully remember those who have served our country. Just a reminder that UCF Libraries will be closed on Friday, November 10 in observance of Veterans Day.

November in the United States is Native American Heritage Month, also referred to as American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. It celebrates the rich history and diversity of America’s native peoples and educates the public about historical and current challenges they face. Native American Heritage Month was first declared by presidential proclamation in 1990 which urged the United States to learn more about their first nations.

A Research Guide on the recently-released papers on the investigation of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963 is available at https://guides.ucf.edu/jfk/assassination. Compiled by Government Documents librarian Rich Gause, the guide provides links to the 5 million page collection opened up on 10/26 by the National Archives, as well as links to the Warren Commission report and the 1978-1979 Congressional investigation. Whether you are a baby boomer who would like to take a look back in time, or a curious millennial, the guide gives you an excellent place to start investigating.
