Tacko Fall: To New Heights

New book alert! UCF Basketball fans will be familiar with the author of one of our newest autobiographies, Tacko Fall: To New Heights. Great book to read with your kids or younger siblings; it tells the story of Tacko’s early life in Senegal and immigration to America to play basketball. Out of forty colleges vying for his attention, Fall chose University of Central Florida where he helped lead the Knights to the 2019 NCAAS tournament. He qualified for the NBA draft by his sophomore year but chose to finish his degree first in 2019 and was signed by the Boston Celtics after graduation. Get the whole inspiring and fun story from our Curriculum Materials Center in the Education building rm 194.

Featured Bookshelf for August 2019 Back to School

Featured Bookshelf: Back to School

The summer semester is ending and the prep for fall has started. It’s only a few short weeks until the 2019-2020 academic year begins. We’ll have a full cohort of students back on campus. The lines for coffee will be never ending and a free parking space will be nowhere to be found. Life will definitely get more exciting.

Libraries staff has pulled together a full list of books that cover a whole range of areas. Some books are for our graduating students wondering what comes next. Some books are to help new incoming students start the year successfully. We even have books that staff read when they were your age (yep, books existed that long ago) that changed how they thought about the world.

Welcome to the 2019-20 academic year!

Book Covers for the 2019 Black History Month Featured Bookshelf

Featured Bookshelf: Black History Month

The national celebration of African American History was started by Carter G. Woodson, a Harvard-trained historian and the founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, and first celebrated as a weeklong event in February of 1926. After a half century of overwhelming popularity, the event was expanded to a full month in 1976 by President Gerald Ford.

Here at UCF Libraries we believe that knowledge is key to living a good life and that sharing information benefits everyone. This is why our featured bookshelf suggestions range from celebrating outstanding African Americans to having difficult conversations about racism and American History. We are proud to present our top 24 favorite books by, and/or about, African Americans.
