98 seats open up on 4th floor

Good news! 98 seats and the newly-remodeled restroom have now opened up on the quiet 4th floor of the John C. Hitt Library. These seats are located next to the windows on the “south” side of the floor. Work continues on the remainder of that half of the floor, which is still covered with a curtain of black plastic. So it is possible that construction noise will be a part of your experience there for the rest of the semester. 235A and 235C remain open for quiet study. Remember that earplugs are available at the Circulation Desk, if you need them.
Thanks for enduring the inconvenience, Knights; it’s part of getting ready for the 21st Century Library.

Get that 4th floor book!

4th floor stacks for call numbers from N to QP, shelved on the “Student Union side” of the floor, may be inaccessible to the average human. But John C. Hitt Library folks are not average humans! With a few key strokes, we can get that book for you.

At library.ucf.edu, click on the white “Books/Catalog” button, and key in your search. When you see a title in your results list that absolutely fascinates you, you will see a link in the record that says, “Place a Hold”. When you click on it, you will be asked for your NID and NID password. Once you submit that information, you will see your search replicated on the screen, followed by the message, “Hold successfully placed.” You will receive an email later, telling you that your book is ready to be picked up at the Circulation Desk.

Through the miracle of technology, you can conduct that search on your smart phone or on your own laptop at home or office. Then you can come into the John C. Hitt Library and pick up your book, once you have received the email that it is available.

TL;DR

  1. Click Books/Catalog
  2. Search
  3. Click Place a Hold
  4. Login
  5. Wait for an email telling you your book is ready for pickup
  6. Pickup your book at the Circulation desk on the main floor of the John C. Hitt Library

3rd Floor

Restrooms on the 3rd floor in the “back half” of the building will remain closed for renovation.

4th Floor

Starting Monday night, 3/20, the “Student Union side” of the 4th floor of the John C. Hitt Library will be closed for the installation of sprinklers. Materials in call numbers N through QP will be inaccessible, but can be requested online, please see a staff member for assistance. Items will be retrieved several times daily, and can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. It is estimated that this work will be completed around 5/1/17. Over the next months the entire building will be fitted with fire sprinklers as part of the ongoing work on the 21st Century Library project.

5th Floor

Work continues on the study area of the 5th floor. When completed, the area will offer students a bright, new, space for silent, individual study, research, reflection, and coursework.
