SCUA's 45 Years of Collecting Exhibit

Exhibit: 45 Years of Collecting

“45 Years of Collecting: UCF Libraries’ Special Collections & University Archives” showcases the University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries’ Special Collections & University Archives’ distinct collection. From a 13th century religious text to UCF memorabilia, the broad range of materials on display reflects the diverse nature of the department’s holdings. This exhibit, curated by department staff, highlights the collection’s evolution over the past forty-five years. While not every item exhibited is the most unique, most valuable, or most rare, they all are essential in telling the department’s history.

The exhibit runs from February 2021 through April 2021 in the new 4th floor Special Collections & University Archives’ Gallery in the John C. Hitt Library.

For more information, email speccoll@ucf.edu.

The gallery capacity is limited to 2 guests at any given time. All guests must wear a face covering and maintain at least 6 feet of physical distancing within the gallery space.

"Make No Mistake, Florida is Crucial" Sen. Lori Wilson and the Equal Rights Amendment

“Make No Mistake, Florida is Crucial”: Sen. Lori Wilson and the Equal Rights Amendment

Friday, March 12, 2021 | 10 am – 11 am | Virtual Event

The Equal Rights Amendment is still a debated issue in the United States. In its basic form, it would add women to the Constitution. The amendment was first written in 1923 – a few years after women won the right to vote. Decades later, it became a significant issue during the Women’s Liberation Movement. Near its almost ratification, Florida was significant – led by Sen. Lori Wilson. It was an interesting discussion about women’s roles in society. This talk will expose the battle for and against the ERA in Florida. It will also address where the ERA battle is today.

This temporary closure is part of the preparation for the upcoming renovations to the 3rd floor spaces which will begin later this year. Stairwells and elevators will be marked with signs and caution tape as a reminder that the floor is not accessible.

If you need a book or other physical library material located on the 3rd floor, please request it at ucflib.fyi/requestbook

The 3rd floor restrooms in the original 1967 portion of the building near the bank of three elevators will permanently close on January 19, 2021. New restrooms will be added to that section as part of the renovations.

For updates on the renovations, check out our 21st Century Library page.
