STARS, UCF’s Showcase of Text, Archives, Research & Scholarship, is the digital institutional repository of content by, for, or about UCF. Through STARS, UCF offers authors a way to manage, share, and increase impact for their full range of scholarship, from open educational resources and podcasts to image galleries and journals.

Did you know you can shine a light on your scholarship by adding your works to the Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works collection? This collection was created specifically to showcase faculty contributions.  View the works and citations currently available and then login or create an account to start adding your materials. Your Author Dashboard will provide access to real-time download activity, alternative metrics, and usage reports on demand. Newly integrated PlumX metrics show you citations, media mentions, tweets, and more.

Do you have students in your class who you think would benefit from a one-on-one research appointment with a librarian? While UCF Libraries continues to offer research assistance virtually for general reference inquiries through our Ask Us service, we also offer virtual research appointments for those seeking an extended, personalized service for more complex questions.

Students can meet with their subject librarian to discuss their particular research questions and challenges. In these sessions, librarians can guide students through sample searches using their topics, recommend resources to explore, suggest possible keywords, and more.

To schedule an appointment, students simply need to fill out the “Schedule an Appointment” form online and provide their contact information and some information about their research project. Then a librarian will contact the student to schedule the day, time, and format for the virtual session. We encourage you to let your students know about this helpful service.

With all the wonderful and not-so-wonderful research resources available to students, it can be difficult for them to select good sources. Don’t you wish there was a resource you could give students to help them find quality information? Well, our library research guides can help. These guides are created by knowledgeable and helpful subject librarians. In the research guides, the librarians highlight all types of resources from our library collection, including books, ebooks, databases, periodicals, as well as open access materials and trusted internet sites. Students can browse the research guides by subject or also by course name and number.

You can also easily make these research guides available in your Canvas course sites. Just make sure that the “Research Guide” tool is enabled in your Canvas navigation toolbar. The research guide for your subject area will automatically show up there. If you would like a different research guide included, or if you would like a customized research guide created for your course, please contact your subject librarian.

The University of Central Florida Libraries is proud to announce that Holly Rogers is the 2020 – 2021 recipient of the June S. Stillman Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

Rogers is a third-year student in the Doctorate Physical Therapy program at UCF. She began working as a student assistant in the Acquisitions and Collection Services Department in the John C. Hitt Library in August 2015. She was part of the team that assembled and stored data in support of the Automatic Retrieval Center (ARC). Other library responsibilities include web development testing, microfilm pH testing, and data input.

Rogers academic career includes Dean’s List as well as President’s List for Eastern Florida State College. Her volunteer experience includes Mission Trips to Belize including organizing a summer camp for children of the Belmopan community as well as constructing a playground. She also volunteers for GoBabyGo which consists of community builds of cars for special needs children.

This is the 22^nd awarding of the Stillman scholarship, which is given to a student or staff member of the UCF Libraries. June S. Stillman was one of the first two librarians hired when UCF (then Florida Technological University) opened in 1968. Her impact on students can be seen from a 25^th anniversary survey of the first graduating class, a majority of whom listed her as a key figure from their student days. Stillman received her second master’s degree in English Literature from UCF while working as the Head of Reference Services at the Library. She retired in 1996 and tragically passed away in 1998. Her friends and family established the June S. Stillman Memorial Endowed Scholarship in her honor. She is remembered as a consummate professional, the epitome of gentility and compassion, and a proponent of lifelong learning.            

American history is a broad and varied topic. It ranges from the native inhabitants who formed communities here thousands of years ago to the creation of a new nation of states to the dreamers who immigrate to these shores today. America is us, the people who live, work, dream, hope and endure on these shores. It is shaped by our ideals and grows as her people do into the future we want for ourselves and future generations. The American dream is not static; it is what we want it to be.

The best way to make an impact and shape our country is to be an engaged citizen. There are so many options available to do this.

• Volunteer in local communities. VolunteerUCF can help you connect with an organization.
• Join a student group to make a difference here at UCF. The Office of Student Involvement has a list of almost 800 student organizations that can meet any interest.  
• Connect with your federal, state, and local representatives. You can let them know your opinions on pending legislation, volunteer, or even thank them if you think they’re doing a good job. Don’t know who your legislators are? Check out this list at USA.gov.
• Most importantly, if you haven’t done so already, register to vote. Find details for how to register in your home state at Vote.gov. If you’re a Florida resident, mail ballots are a practical option that are easy to request. If you’re an out of state student, absentee is the simplest way to vote. And pay attention to registration deadlines!
