Introduction

This guide will help you use the library catalog to find books and other research materials. For more assistance, please Ask a Rosen Librarian.

Where to Find Books

Start at the Rosen Library's homepage. You will see the UCF Library Catalog basic search box at the top of the page:

    You can use the library's online catalog to look for books and other items, including:  
  • Videos, DVDs, and other audiovisual materials
  • Ebooks and other online resources
  • Government documents

How to Find Books

  • Type your keywords in the Basic Search box and click on Search.
  • You can choose to search by title, author, subject, etc. using the options available from the dropdown box. Leave Anywhere selected to perform a basic keyword search.
  • Click on the Advanced Search link for additional options, such as searching with multiple terms.

Understanding Results

The results of a search will provide information for finding each item, including:

  • The location of the item (Rosen General Collection, Main Library, Online, etc.)
  • The item call number
  • Information about whether the item is available to be checked out or when it is due

To find an item on our shelves, write down the location of the item and the call number. You can print, email, or text an item record to yourself with this information using the buttons found below the item. Ask a Rosen Librarian if you are having trouble finding an item.

Narrowing Results

After your initial search you will see a sidebar to the left of the results list. To narrow the results of your search, click on any of the options listed. You can select more than one option. These options include:

  • Library/Collection (Rosen, Main Library, Online, etc.)
  • Format (book, journal, etc.)
  • Subject
  • Author

Renewing Books Online

  • Click on the renewals/library account button located at the top right of the catalog, or the Renew Your Books Online link from the Rosen Library homepage.
  • Enter your Library ID Number (located on your UCF ID) and list four digits of your PID.
  • From here you can view your library account and renew books.
  • If you experience difficulty logging in or problems with your account, contact the Circulation Department at 407-823-2580 or at circ@mail.ucf.edu.


There are many other ways to search for articles effectively in the catalog. Ask a Rosen Librarian for help if you do not get the results you need. We can also retrieve materials for you from other libraries. See the Rosen Research Guide on Interlibrary Loan for more information.
