The Rosen Library’s Fall exhibit, Yesterday’s World: Documenting the Walt Disney World Parks, 1969-2004, shines a spotlight on the history of the theme parks that put Orlando on the map!

Featuring materials from the UCF Libraries’ Special Collections & University Archives, the exhibit includes:

• Early planning documents and promotional materials
• Park maps and show schedules from the 1980s and 1990s
• Cast member training materials and newsletters
• Vintage tickets, attraction coupons, souvenirs, and more!

Books on Disney World history and lore are also displayed on top of the exhibit case, and these books can be checked out for more information.

You might find them in front of the classroom or in the office down the hall and yet never suspect they make art. They are “Hidden Artists”. Hidden Artists is a group of UCF faculty and staff from various departments who create art on their own time. Founded by Judy Bragg Pardo, retired Senior Art Specialist at SDES, Hidden Artists have exhibited at the John C. Hitt Library since 2008.

Now on its 11th year, the Hidden Artists Exhibit is on display at the John C. Hitt Library Main Floor, with the assistance of Special Collections & University Archives. Artwork on display include a variety of styles, subjects, and mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, and mixed media. The exhibit features the talents of Maribel Amaro-Garcia, Kimberly Berry, Gina Clifton, Pamela Williams Gruen, Dawn Herrod, Meredith Malkin, Russ Muller, Judy Bragg Pardo, Brian Pate, M.C. Santana, as well as library staff members Jacqui Johnson and Chris Saclolo. The exhibit will run until September 28, 2018.

There will be a reception for the exhibit that is open to the public on Thursday, September 13th from 4 pm to 6 pm in the John C. Hitt Library, room 223.

While every day is a time to celebrate your identity and orientation, June is a notable month set aside to loudly and proudly celebrate with and for the LGBTQIA community. Here at UCF Libraries we are loudly proud of everyone at UCF who identifies as part of the queer community. In recognition of and support for our LGBTQIA Knights, we are hosting a series of displays and events including a UCF Remembers display from the Pulse Collection, a featured bookshelf, three film screenings and discussions, and our new Speak Your Truth: A Queer History of UCF project.

The Rosen Library’s new exhibit showcases celebrity chefs and their signature recipes. Peruse a collection of memoirs and recipe books from Nobu to Ina Garten. Included in the exhibit is a binder detailing each featured chef’s signature dish or favorite cocktail.

May is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month – a celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. Visit the main (2nd) floor of John C. Hitt Library to view the winners of the Asian/Pacific American Awards for Literature and other books written by Asian Americans.

The Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature (APAAL) is a set of literary awards presented annually by the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA).  Books on display include The Refugees and The Sympathizer: A Novel by Viet Thanh Nguyen, a recipient of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, I Hotel, 2010 National Book Award Finalist by Karen Tei Yamashita, The Making of Asian America: A History by Erica Lee, an award-winning American historian, Director of the Immigration History Research Center, and the Rudolph J. Vecoli Chair in Immigration History at the University of Minnesota and Black Bird Fly by Erin Entrada Kelly, winner of the prestigious Newberry Medal in 2017.
