Last week, as the UCF community prepared to celebrate Thanksgiving, a white easel placed near the entrance to the John C. Hitt Library displayed the phrase, “I am thankful…”. Yellow post-it notes and pens were available for passers-by to respond and add their thoughts. Over 100 sticky notes with messages of thankfulness were received and displayed. “Family” or family members received the largest response.”Family and friends” or “my parents” were typical responses. Many respondents were thankful for UCF, and many were thankful for someone they named on the post-it note. “Food” received some interesting reponses: “gobble ’til you wobble”. There were words of advice as well: “If you’re pre-med, be thankful Nursing is an option”. Everyone at the library is thankful for UCF’s amazing student body, faculty, and staff.

Where can you find giant maps, study space, and books for days?

The first floor, of course! No, not the floor with the coffee shop. The one beneath that.

Take the stairs or the elevator and visit the first floor of the John C. Hitt Library. Follow Carrie Moran in this quick tour of the place that the government documents department calls home.

Hours at the John C. Hitt Library on Gameday, Saturday, November 19 are 9.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m. Kickoff at Bright House Stadium is at 8.00 p.m., so hard-working, Library-using, hard-studying, relentlessly researching Knights have plenty of time to meet tailgating friends and see the start of the game. The UCF Knights face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, under the lights. Go Knights! Charge On!

Friday, November 11, 2016, is Veterans Day, a day to gratefully remember those who have served our country.  The UCF Libraries joins in the celebration by saluting five of its own employees.   Salute!

Congratulations to Adam Manno, student assistant in the library’s Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery Service! Adam is the winner of the first awarded Steven Sotloff Memorial Endowed Fund scholarship. The endowment honors the memory of UCF alumnus Steven Sotloff, who was killed after being taken hostage as a freelance journalist by Islamic terrorist group ISIS in 2014. Manno is expected to graduate in May 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in political science. He has worked in Interlibrary Loan for three years.
