UCF Libraries Welcomes New Head of Digital Scholarship

The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries is excited to announce the appointment of Mairelys Lemus-Rojas as the new Head of Digital Scholarship. Mairelys brings more than a decade of experience advancing open knowledge, metadata innovation, and collaborative digital initiatives throughout higher education.

She most recently served as Head of Open Metadata Production and Initiatives at Brown University, where she led efforts to make digital assets more discoverable, inclusive, and accessible. Her previous roles include Open Knowledge Librarian, Digital Initiatives Metadata Librarian, and Metadata Librarian at Indiana University Indianapolis, and she has also held positions at the University of Miami and Florida State University.

Throughout her career, Mairelys has designed and led projects that amplify underrepresented voices, improve open data ecosystems, and enhance scholarly visibility through platforms like Wikidata, Scholia, and institutional repositories. Her work has been widely published and presented at local, national, and international levels, and she is recognized as a passionate advocate for open knowledge and equity in digital scholarship.

Mairelys holds a Master of Science in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University, with graduate certificates in Information Architecture and Museum Studies.

“I’m thrilled to step into the role of Head of Digital Scholarship at UCF Libraries and help advance digital scholarship as a transformative force across campus,” said Lemus-Rojas “This work has the power to bring together diverse voices, spark cross-disciplinary collaborations, and reimagine how we create, share, and preserve knowledge.”

As Head of Digital Scholarship, Mairelys will lead a growing team responsible for strategic initiatives in digital publishing, digital humanities, metadata, copyright, and research impact. She will oversee the development of the Libraries’ new digital lab opening in 2026, and play a key role in shaping services that support immersive scholarship, open access, and digital innovation. Her appointment reflects UCF Libraries’ continued commitment to research excellence and equitable access to knowledge.
