Know Your Library: Historical Newspapers – Florida Collection
All Libraries Posted: November 14th, 2024If you are a UCF student, chances are you’ve used your UCF account to access various databases, journals, and articles. The UCF Libraries provides students with access to a variety of subscriptions, including research materials, historical artifacts, skill modules, educational videos, online newspapers, and more. Now, there’s a new collection available for your use.
Considering the importance of primary sources, newspapers are among researchers’ most sought-after material. With nearly 200 historical titles, ProQuest Historical Newspapers is considered the definitive newspaper digital archive. The new content includes articles, photos, advertisements, classified ads, obituaries, editorial cartoons, and so much more, enabling researchers to study the progression of issues and ideas over time.
The collections provide invaluable insights and information from a wide range of subjects: from the U.S. Civil War, westward expansion, industrial developments, and World Wars to international, local, and regional politics, arts, culture, business, and sports.
ProQuest Historical Newspapers also contains U.S. and U.S. State collections, which currently include 35 states. The UCF Library provides a subscription to the most important state, and thus most important collection: Florida!
Using your UCF account, you can unearth Florida’s past through Florida’s state newspapers, including The Daily News, The Orlando Sentinel, the Tallahassee Democrat, and many others. You can use the Florida Collection to travel as far back as 1884 with The Fort Myers Press!
