Tell us about your background and your journey here at UCF.
I migrated to the United States 31 years ago and worked at the Orange County Court for three years before working at UCF Libraries in the CMC in 1998. Initially, the CMC was located on the second floor of the Education Complex but we moved to the first floor in 2000. During my time here, I worked as a Senior LTA before becoming a supervisor, a role I have held for the past 18 years. I completed my AA at Seminole State and graduated from UCF with my BSBA in General Accounting in 2014.

What does a typical day look like for you at the library?
Throughout the day the library ranges from being calm to busy. My typical day revolves around opening the library and staffing the desk, checking mail, processing new books received from cataloging. Assisting patrons with finding materials in the collection for their projects. Working with students on the Glowforge, Cricut and 3D printers. Ordering new items through acquisitions. Processing timesheets in workday. Library maintenance on any damaged items, following through on Facilities work request or addressing any technological issues that may arise.
What are three key things you want people to know about you and your position at UCF?
The Curriculum Materials Center is committed to supporting the CCIE School of Education and students as well as educational professionals in their teaching and learning journey.
We have cutting-edge tools like the Cricut, 3D and Glowforge laser cutter that help foster creativity and innovation. Technology is available for everyone in the UCF community. One of the things that sets the CMC apart is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Our team is always ready to assist with any research and projects.

What motivates you to do your best work every day?
What motivates me is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of teacher, faculty and staff by providing or assisting with the resources that they need to make their project successful.
What are some underutilized resources at the library that you wish more students and faculty knew about?
The Curriculum Materials Center in itself is an underutilized resource. We have a wealth of resources that are designed to support educators, parents, students and faculty from Pre K-12. Our makerspace which many students and faculty do not realize is easily accessible and useful for creative projects.

What do you see as the future of academic libraries in higher education?
Libraries will become the essential hub for research with emerging technologies like AI but as an education library I would like to see more students using the library materials instead of focusing on online content.
Are there any new initiatives or programs at the library that you’re excited about?
Providing workshops on usage of our Makerspace will be upcoming every semester. Also Crochet is very exciting for UCF students and we have had two Crochet nights with 16 attendees for each session.
What are some personal hobbies and things you like to do outside of work?
I love reading and cooking. My current passion is making amigurumi toys.
