Implement a Waiting List for the Studyrooms

Posted on: May 26, 2010 @ 3:48:41 pm

Comment: Benefit: With 50,000 students it is almost impossible to find a place with 2+ people to talk/study. Or some other way to ensure there will be a place for most students to study.

from the library: It does get crowded in the main library, and sometimes your best bet for productive group work is one of the library's 28 group study rooms.

During Fall 2009, 15 restaurant pagers were deployed to let groups know when a group study room became available. They seem to be working well for most of the semester. During final exams, 15 pagers were insufficient for the number of waiting groups, and students needed to return to the Circulation Desk at a later time to get a pager. The Suggestion Box is sorry that facilities fell short of filling your needs, and we will try to find a way to accomodate those waiting for a pager.

You can check the Study Room Availability page before you come to the library, or while you are here in the library.

Although the main library does not have space to add any more group study rooms, the Knowledge Commons, slated to open on the main floor in Fall 2010, will have a number of seating configurations that can support group work.
