Opening Lines

College is wonderful because it takes the children away from home just as they reach the arguing stage.

~ Will Rogers (1879-1935)

News & Notes...

Tech Fee Improvements

Over the summer, the Rosen Library implemented a number of Tech-Fee-funded technology improvements for students. We replaced all of the desktop PCs in the library, added wall-mounted computers and Blu-ray players in the small study rooms, added tablets for checkout, and improved both wired and wireless connections in the library. We also implemented a digital sign, where we will feature news about the library and the Rosen campus.

Taken together, it represents a major technology overhaul. If you haven't been in the library for a while, stop by and take a look at all the new stuff!

Library Instruction

If you are teaching a course this fall that includes a research-assignment, we encourage you to think about including a library instruction component. Topics could include how to perform basic library and online research, how to find company information, how to cite sources, and more. Delivery options include:

  • Online modules through Canvas
  • Online modules through our library website
  • Face-to-face sessions

If you're not sure which delivery method to choose, we can help you pick the option that works best with your course and with your work style.

We request that you please contact us as soon as possible — before the start of classes, if possible — with all library instruction requests.

To schedule a library instruction component with one or more of your summer courses, simply contact Kelly or Tim at, at 407-903-8100, or in person in the library.

Canvas Modules

For those who have used our Canvas modules in the past: we ask that you not try to reuse older modules, as some of the content and functionality is out of date! Please contact Kelly or Tim ( or 407-903-8100) and we will provide you with the updated module.

University Writing Center Update

The University Writing Center (UWC) will be on campus again this fall, offering writing consultations in a Rosen Library study room.

Starting with the second week of classes, writing experts will be available in the Rosen Library:

  • Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Students can visit (and click on the TutorTrac logo) or call 407-823-2197 to set up an appointment. Walk-ins without appointments will also be helped, if availability permits. The UWC also offers remote consultations by phone or by Adobe Connect.

Accounting & Finance Tutoring

The library will also be hosting accounting & finance tutoring in our large meeting meeting room (120F), starting with the third week of classes. The schedule is being developed by Dr. Kevin Murphy and will be made available soon.

Course Reserves

Please contact us if you would like to put any additional materials on (print or electronic) reserve for your fall course(s), or if you just want to double-check to see if we have a copy of your required and/or recommended text on reserve.

Students really enjoy having access to course materials in the library — last fall semester, students checked out a reserve item in the Rosen Library over 2700 times!
