Life during the Civil War

Posted on: Apr 11, 2011 @ 10:43:25 am

As you may have heard, this month marks the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, in April 1861.

Which makes it a great time to look at HarpWeek, the digital images of Harper's Weekly, Journal of Civilization, as it was called. HarpWeek offers Electronic Access to Harper's Weekly: 1857-1912.

It is one thing to read materials written currently about the Civil War, and quite another to read source materials written during the period. You can find HarpWeek on the list of UCF's databases.

Of course, you could watch the DVDs of the Ken Burns acclaimed series, The Civil War, E468 .C58 2004 DVD,(3rd floor Media Services) or read Ken Burns's The Civil War : historians respond shelved on the first floor at E468.9 .K46 1996.
