Welcome back, Knights! A new year, a new decade, a new semester!

Posted on: Jan 11, 2010 @ 9:58:46 am are you going to kick things off now that it is finally 2010? There are those who start the new by looking at the old. You can read the Time Magazine article, "THE DECADE FROM HELL ... and how the next one can be better", Serwer, Andy, Kowitt, Beth, Time, 12/7/2009, Vol. 174, Issue 22, in Ebscohost's Academic Search Premier (just go to the letter "A" for Academic Search Premier in the list of Articles and Databases). Or you can take some positive action to make this semester the best one ever:

  • Set up a Refworks account. Go to the list of Articles and Databases, click on "R" and do yourself a big, big favor. Keeping track of what you read during your academic career, and being able to pull up citations to insert directly into your paper, or to compile a bibliography, is a wonderful thing.
  • Ask A Librarian. Yes, really. Chat, IM, call (407-823-2562 or 1-866-271-7589 **toll free**) or come on into the library for some valuable face-to-face interaction with a librarian. Got a really big paper or research project? Schedule a Research Consultation, your very own appointment with a librarian. You can bring your study group along if they are involved, or if you never travel alone.
  • Speaking of writing, were we?, the University Writing Center has resumed hours in the main library, 359. Schedule an appointment or just walk in.
  • Take a look at the LibGuides in your field! To have databases, journals, reference materials, etc., etc., etc., all grouped in one place makes life that much easier. Bookmark your favorites!
  • And finally---particularly if you are a new Knight, take a look at a guide to start the semester right.

Your UCF Libraries wishes all the best for you in 2010. Go Knights!
