Renovation
Phase IID involved the renovation of the 4th floor, a project that began in May 2024 and concluded in July 2025. The completed floor opened to the public at the start of the Fall 2025 semester.
Architectural and construction bids were awarded to Steinberg Hart and Turner Construction Company.
Throughout the project, the design process was guided by several core principles: fostering student innovation and collaboration, establishing a distinctive identity that highlighted the arts and learning, and incorporating active design strategies.
The renovation achieved a number of key goals, including enhanced features that promoted books and reading; the addition of 400 seats; 27 new group study rooms for 2 to 6 students; a dedicated student organization conference room; expanded silent study space; and inclusive technology studios supporting student discovery, research, and instructional use.
Here are some of the preliminary renderings that informed the project:

Renovation Preparation
In preparation for the renovation, the Libraries assessed the collections, which resulted in relocating some physical materials and deaccessioning others.
In accordance with UCF Libraries’ mission, policies and procedures, materials actively used for research, teaching, and learning remained accessible at the UCF Libraries. Subject librarians stayed in regular contact with faculty and kept us informed about the resources the community needed.
Books and print periodicals that did not meet retention criteria were removed from the library in compliance with UCF policy and state statutes, which required that state‑owned materials be handled according to state law. Federal and state government documents were transferred to other libraries and/or removed in accordance with federal and state regulations
Throughout the process, we explored all solutions consistent with UCF Libraries’ mission, policies, and procedures as we maintained our commitment to being good stewards of state resources. This included maintaining resources in demand by our community and continuing our longstanding practice of utilizing interlibrary loan service and materials recommendation programs.
The Libraries continued to support the UCF community with online resources—the preferred format for acquisition—as well as other formats when materials were unavailable online or otherwise essential.
