ABOUT THE COMPETITION

The mission of UCF Libraries Department of Special Collections and University Archives is to provide services central to the Library and University community in support of research, teaching and service. Materials are collected which cannot be easily replaced and include, but are not limited to, books, manuscripts, historic public records, ephemera, photographs, and art. These materials have a central function to the curriculum and support long-term research goals. The preservation of these materials is a service to the local, state and national research community.

The Book Arts Collection at the Department is a resource collection of books, or book-like objects, created by artists as works of art. The Collection also includes examples of fine press books, periodicals, and other books related to bookbinding, papermaking, calligraphy, typography, and printing. Jurors will choose book(s) created by UCF student(s) to be added to the Book Arts Collection and the winner(s) will be awarded $250. Winners will be announced January 2009.
