Biographical/Historical Note
The UCF book arts competition is an annual competition started in
2005. The competition is open to all enrolled UCF students. Winners are awarded
a $250 prize and entry into the university's book arts collection.
Collection Scope and Content
The collection is a single series which lists and briefly describes
each item.
The UCF Book Arts Competition Collection contains numerous
student-created entries which for various reasons were not chosen for addition
into the university's book arts collection. Each entry ranges in size, content,
and format and represents each author's own take on book arts.

Collection and University Archives from 2005-present. Descriptions given are

2006.
Created from a mixture of caution tape, sandpaper, duct
tape, and printed images of road signs and construction projects. Held together
with a nut and bolt. 6" x 6".

Made of black cover cardstock and colored printer paper.
Images printed onto paper. Leaves held together with red string which also
spells out the title.

Created from blue fabric and card stock. Folds out into
an instruction manual for tying a bow tie on one side while giving instruction
for how to properly wear a bow tie on the other.

Cover made from faux velvet. Interior sheets are red
cardstock containing various black and white photographs of Paris. Stickers
have been placed both on the cover and throughout the book.

Created out of a blank white book, cut into and painted
red. Small cards connected with string are included. Additionally, dried petals
decorate the piece.

and Valarie Schnatter.
2006.
Constructed of synthetic leather, poster board,
cardboard, and paper. Shaped as a fortune cookie with a small book inside.
Entire piece wrapped in a cellophane bag and tied with a string.

Alcoholic Colophon by Steve and
Whitney.
2006.
Made of a bottle, bottle labels, a paper bag, a straw,
and a cork. Labels glued together, rolled around straws, corked into a bottle
and wrapped in a paper bag. Stored in a standard 12 oz. bottle.
