Wayne Densch Sports Center - 1986

In April of 1985, Orlando businessman Wayne Densch pledged $1 million to UCF for athletic scholarships. Over the next decade, the income produced by the fund will have generated the equivalent of 140 full scholarships. In recognition of the steadfast support given UCF intercollegiate athletics by the Orlando businessman, the existing athletic complex at the University of Central Florida was dedicated in October of 1986 as the Wayne Densch Sports Center. On April 4th of 2002, ground was broken for the new Wayne Densch Sports Center and by August of 2003, it was completed and opened on the northeast side of campus near the present-day on-campus stadium resides. The center cost $5.2 million dollars of which Densch donated $2.5 million for its construction. The center now known as home to the UCF football program houses the athletic department’s main sports medicine facility and strength and conditioning centers.

The sports medicine facility is equipped with the latest in technology, for example a Swimex pool that provides underwater resistance with currents up to 10.5 miles per hour, a chiller pool that resides in a constant temperature of 50 degrees, and a ground-heated massage pool with a temperature range between 100-105 degrees. In addition, the complex offers 44,000 square feet of offices, locker rooms, theatre-style meeting auditorium, free weight and machine equipment and various other athletic related materials. The Nicholson Fieldhouse was added behind the Wayne Densch Sports Center in June of 2005. The first indoor facility of any Division I football program in Florida, the Nicholson Fieldhouse features a 120-yard regulation playing surface that is equipped with Field Turf.
