Please join us for a lively and thought provoking discussion regarding reading, censorship, and the history of challenged books to commemorate the start of National Library Week 2018. UCF Research and Information Services Librarian, Sandy Avila will discuss the American Library Association’s Top Ten Frequently Challenged Books of 2017 while providing some background regarding the history of challenged books from around the world. This session is open to students and faculty and no RSVP is required. Meet us at the John C. Hitt Library (main campus) Room 223 to learn more about banned books and the dilemmas surrounding their censorship.

The John C. Hitt Library, Office of Research, and Faculty Excellence are pleased to announce two upcoming events to be hosted by the Burnett Honors College. The panel sessions described below will highlight the diverse research interests and publishing activities of scholars in the College of Arts & Humanities. Join us for a library drop-in session during Research Week at the Hitt Library (main campus) in room 223. This session is open to faculty and all graduate and undergraduate students. No RSVP required. Session topics will discuss researching with Oxford e-books and e-journals and publishing in Oxford University Press. There will also be brief presentations on planning strategies using library resources, organizing sources with RefWorks or Mendeley citation managers, and time for Q&A for help with your questions!

Author, historian, and political cartoonist Glenn M. Stein will be speaking Wednesday, March 28th, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the John C. Hitt Library, Room 223. Stein will talk about researching, writing, and publishing his book, Discovering the North-West Passage: The Four-Year Arctic Odyssey of H.M.S Investigator and the McClure Expedition. A maritime and polar historian, Stein is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, life member of the American Polar Society, and a member of the Orders of Medals Research Society. Stein’s work has been recognized by numerous national and international organizations and his writings are included in the collections of the Library of Congress and the UCF Libraries.
