What is Other Personal Services (OPS)?
OPS is the classification used for regular Student Assistants not participating in FWS.
What happens to my application?
When an opening occurs, the individual department supervisor posts an ad on Handshake or JobX and reviews all applications to identify students who have the skills and work schedule that meet the needs of his or her own work group. The student supervisor from the hiring department contacts students directly for interviews.
When is hiring done?
The library is open year-round and new student assistants join our team on a regular basis. Most of the recruitment takes place just before the start of the fall and spring semesters.
Who makes the hiring decisions?
Because the library employs around 200 people and houses over a dozen individual departments, hiring decisions are made by individual department supervisors. Library Administration does not have information about which departments are hiring and only becomes involved in the process once a candidate has been selected for hire.
