Your Special Borrower's card, together with a second photo ID pr a UCF ID, may be used to check out materials from the CMC library, general collection, video collection, government documents and the vertical files. The Special Borrower card is non-transferable between individuals. While reference books, newspapers, reserve materials and periodicals, do not circulate, you are welcome to use them in our Library building. Interlibrary loans are available only as described below. A missing library card should be reported to the Circulation desk immediately. Lost cards will be replaced for a $5.00 fee.
Depending on whether a patron is Faculty, Staff, Graduate Student, or Undergraduate Student checkout length will vary. Books in the Browsing Collection are limited to a three week checkout. In most cases, Reference Books, Indexes, and Journals cannot be checked out. The link below will assist you in determining the proper check out periods for your Library status:
How long can library materials be checked out?
The demand for study rooms is such that we must restrict their use to current UCF students only.
Materials from the general collection may be renewed unless a hold/recall request has been placed on the item. Library materials and your Special Borrower's Card must be presented in person at the circulation desk at time of renewal or you may renew online via your library account if you do not have any recalled or overdue library materials. Materials cannot be renewed via telephone or mail renewals.
If the book is currently checked out to another patron, a HOLD request can be placed on that item. You may request a hold for an item either online or by filling out a form at the Circulation Desk. When an item becomes available for pick up, you will be notified via email or telephone*. Once you are contacted , bring your UCF Id to the Circulation Desk, where the item will be held for one week from the date of notification.
When material is recalled, the patron who has the material currently checked out is notified by mail with the adjusted due date. The adjusted due date is three weeks from original check out if you have had the item less than three weeks and ten days if you have already had the item more than three weeks. Materials needed for Course Reserve are subject to recall immediately. When the item is thirty days overdue, borrowing privileges and databases access are suspended until the overdue material is returned and the suspension is cleared. Once the recalled item is returned the patron who placed the recall is notified via email* that the item is ready for pick up. The materials are held behind the circulation desk for seven days.

For items that are not checked out and cannot be found on the shelf, a missing form can be requested and filled out at the Circulation Desk. Library Staff will then conduct a thorough search for the requested item over a period of several weeks.

Materials are considered overdue at 8:00am following the due date, or in the case of reserve materials, one hour after the time indicated on the due date.
All debts to the library must be paid in full before receiving or renewing a special borrower's card.
The University Library is mandated to assess the following fine for overdue materials:
Although the fines accrue from the stamped due date, they are not collected until the amount reaches $1.00 (four days overdue-regular loan). This three-day grace period does not apply to reserve materials.
