Bike and Body, by Nicolette
Ross, is a well-made and interesting accordion-fold book. The text is a complement
to the concept, with blanks where the word 'bike' or others supplied by the imagination
could be inserted. The physical form of the book works with the idea, even
to the center of the book which pictures a bicycle built for four and the unfolding
of the book which works like the path of a bike. The seamless joining of the
paper in the accordion folds, the quality of the paper and its color, the workmanship
of the binding - we see it first as a beautiful box and then a story.

My Paper Heart, by Jamasa McPherson, is a conceptually
interesting and engaging book. This work was created as if found in a car;
CD's of corny love songs that becomes the text of the story and is bound by a CD
case. The artist included an MP3 player and ear-buds which is played as the
reader turns through the 'pages'. The addition of music pulls the reader's
attention in and focuses them so that they are enclosed by the story.

Fables, by Sarah Nastri, is a technically skilled work
that is a box with six fables attached to folded block prints. The nicely
executed prints contain images of the fables' content. The box containing
the fables is beautifully stitched with the word FABLES as a title. A nice
complement of skills in the embroidery and the printing, the book is a small treasure
box of wisdom stories.
