Copyright Compliance for Reserve Materials

In accordance with the UCF Office of the General Counsel, it is the responsibility of faculty members to conform to copyright law. All items placed on reserve must comply with UCF Libraries' Copyright Policy. Obtaining permission from the copyright holder before making copies for reserve is strongly encouraged.

Each photocopied submission must include a copy of the original copyright notice from the photocopied material.

Personal copies and folders for each article, etc., should indicate the course prefix and number, instructor's name, and contents. Pages should be in order and stapled appropriately to reduce chances of loss.

NOTICE CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.  The UCF Libraries reserves the right to refuse a request if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the request would involve violation of copyright law.
