Reference Sources
It is often a good idea to begin your research in the following types of sources, which are designed to be consulted for topic overviews or for authoritative information. In many cases, they contain vital information that cannot be found anywhere else. A denotes a core resource.

Circulating books relating to the food and beverage industry are generally found in the following call number ranges:

Finding Articles

Browsing Periodicals
The following periodicals are available in print in the library and may contain helpful information about the food and beverage industry. General hospitality/tourism periodicals may also have relevant material about wine and beer service or trends. To find articles on a specific topic, you may need to use one of our databases.

To find articles from journals and magazines on your topic, or to find information about a company or industry, you may need to use one of UCF's many databases. (Note: if you are off campus, refer to the Off Campus Access page to find out how to access library databases using your UCF ID card.)

To find databases that are typically most useful for the study of hospitality, click on the Database Locator tab on our homepage, and then choose the subject Hospitality. Some useful databases for wine and beer information include:

For finding articles in journals/magazines on particular topics:

  • Hospitality & Tourism Complete: Includes scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism, with coverage from the 1960s to the present.
  • Business Source Premier: Includes Wine Spectator and other major trade publications, as well as wine industry profiles for individual countries.
  • ABI Inform: An extensive international business and management database, containing bibliographic citations, abstracts, and full-text from trade and scholarly articles. Full-text access is available for Beverage World and the International Journal of Wine Marketing.
  • Mintel: Contains several research reports on the U.S. and European wine, beer and distilled spirits industries. Includes data on consumption, sales volume, and import and export volume.

Finding Other Materials

Most wineries and breweries have their own websites. However, for general information about wine and beer, you may wish to explore some of the websites listed in our Food Industry Tutorial.
