Media and CMC

  • Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME) (http://www-jime.open.ac.uk) offers an innovative, interactive forum for publishing articles and soliciting peer feedback on those publications.  There are several "issues" - each containing one lengthy article - per year.  Access the journal and register to provide feedback free of charge.
  • MC Journal:  The Journal of Academic Media Librarianship
    (http://wings.buffalo.edu/publications/mcjrnl) is a peer reviewed journal covering both practical and scholarly aspects of academic media librarianship.  It is distributed semi-annually at no charge.
  • School Library Journal Online (http://slj.reviewsnews.com) is the Web companion to SLJ.  Find selected full-text articles, editorials, software reviews and news from the world of libraries free of charge.   There is a charge for the full subscription.
  • School Library Media Research (SLMR)(http://www.ala.org/aasl/SLMR) is the official journal of the American Association of School Librarians.  The journal provides refereed articles on school library media theory and practice.

K-12 Practitioners

  • ALAN Review (http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/ejournals/ALAN) is the official publication of the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents, a special-interest group of the National Council of Teachers of English.  Published three times per year, the journal offers articles, interviews with authors, book reviews, and more.
  • Creative Classroom Online (http://www.creativeclassroom.org) offers timely and relevant articles and suggestions for K-8 classroom teachers.   Updated bimonthly, Creative Classroom Online is drawn from past and present issues of Creative Classroom.
  • Education Week (http://www.edweek.org) provides something for everyone.  There are links to current events information, teaching resources on the Web, and awards and grants deadlines in the Teacher Magazine section.  Updated daily, the Daily News section pulls the best articles on education from newspapers around the country.  There are also job postings, book and software reviews, and a searchable archive.  A new issue is posted each week and the electronic version is available free of charge.
  • Education World (http://www.education-world.com) is a comprehensive web site that links to articles, lesson plans, and web site reviews.   This K-12 resource is updated daily, at no cost.
  • Electronic School Online (http://www.electronic-school.com) is a quarterly publication created to enhance student learning through the judicious use of technology.  Find articles, software reviews, and information on the application of technology in the schools.  It is accessible free of charge.
  • NEGP Weekly (http://commons.somewhere.com/reportcard/index.html) offers a weekly summary of news on K-12 education from the National Educational Goals Panel.  This free publication was formerly known as "The Daily Report Card."
  • Teacher Magazine (http://www.teachermagazine.org) provides feature articles, news on current events and research, editorials, and other information pertinent to practicing teachers.  It is distributed monthly free of charge.
  • Teacher Talk (http://education.indiana.edu/cas/tt/tthmpg.html) offers articles, commentary, and suggestions on a wide variety of useful topics for primary and secondary education teachers.  It is published three times per year.  Access this text-based magazine free of charge.

Student Mags

  • Cyberkids! (http://www.cyberkids.com/index.html) offers a forum for posting creative works, fun and games, and a learning center.
  • DoDoland in Cyberspace (http://www.dodoland.com/) has a teacher's resource area and states that it is a fun place for 4 to 14 year olds to create, be happy, and learn about the arts and the environment.
  • Fundango (http://www.fundango.com) publishes a weekly ezine delivered to kids by email.  Review samples from the ezine at the site, then sign up for free delivery.
  • KIDS Report (http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/tnl/detectives/kids/), from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries, is touted as posting kid identified and discovered sites.
  • MidLink Magazine (http://longwood.cs.ucf.edu/~MidLink) is a digital magazine for kids, by kids, from 8 to 18.  It has been around since 1994, and also offers a teacher resource room.
  • Time for Kids (http://www.timeforkids.com/TFK) is the kid version of Time and provides coverage of many of today's news stories.
