General Library Research

The World Wide Web is generally not a good place to find scholarly information for research topics. Your professors will usually want you to conduct most of your research in books, articles, and other reputable sources. However, the following websites have been found to be useful in the past and may provide news, reports, statistics, or other vital information on current topics:

    News Sources

  • Associated Press:
    Global news, photos, graphics, audio, and video
  • Reference

    An online reference library that includes encyclopedias, quotation books, works of fiction and nonfiction, and more
    Brief biographies of famous people
  • Google Scholar:
    Provides a search of scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources, including theses, books, abstracts and articles
    Useful portal for reference, news, facts, and more
  • Government Resources & Information

  • CIA World Factbook:
    Country profiles, flags of the world, and much more
  • EarthTrends Environmental Information:
    Articles, maps, and country profiles related to the environment and maintained by the World Resources Institute
    Fact checking of U.S. politicians, provided by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania
  • Medline Plus:
    Current health news and health topics from the U.S. National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health
  • My Florida:
    The official portal of the State of Florida
  • Pew Research Center:
    " Numbers, facts and trends shaping your world"
  • UCF Government Resources Page:
    A gateway to government information
    The U.S. Government's Official Web Portal
