The UCF Libraries Curriculum Materials Center provides a course reserve service to support teaching activities in the College of Education. This policy statement sets forth the guidelines that regulate reserve materials. The CMC exercises the right to determine conditions of use and to refuse materials for reserve for legal or other reasons. For further information or assistance, contact the CMC at 407-823-2791.
The CMC endeavors to process all faculty requests for course reserves in the timeliest manner possible and in conformance with copyright law.
Any faculty member or instructor may place books from the Libraries' collections, personal copies of books or other materials belonging to the course instructor, binders or folders containing photocopies of specific journal articles, notes, tests, etc., and / or audiovisual materials, software, or other items as approved by the Department Head. While security is provided for personal materials placed on reserve, the CMC cannot accept liability for these materials. Due to space limitations, the materials must contain readings required for a class taught during the current semester.
The CMC provides access to software if the application can be supported on the CMC's computers. In general, the CMC cannot dedicate computer equipment to a specific reserve item nor can extensive alterations be made to library computer hardware or operating systems in order to make an application operate properly. Any software covered by a license agreement which precludes use in a library setting cannot be installed on library computers.
Course Reserves are intended solely for non-commercial, educational use. Reserves guidelines pertaining to copyright derive from provisions of the copyright law (17 USC 107). Materials from which the faculty member has obtained permission from the copyright holder, materials that fall within "fair use," and copyright exempt materials can be placed on reserve. Faculty who place materials on reserve are responsible for ensuring that those items are copyright compliant. To assist in determining whether copyright permission should be obtained, consult the Use of Copyrighted Material http://www.ucf.edu/president/2-103%20Use%20of%20Copyrighted%20Material%20final.pdf policy from the Office of the President. Contact the Office of General Counsel at 407-823-2482 for further information.
Patrons are permitted to charge out all reserve items for two hour in-library use, unless otherwise specified by the faculty member. Faculty have the same loan period as students. Reserve fines accrue at the rate of $0.25 per hour for each hour the item is past due. Replacement charges for library-owned materials are the cost of the item plus processing fees.
These procedures are also to be followed when adding materials to existing course reserves during the semester.
