Method 1: Online Journals

This method can help you identify electronic holdings (if any) for a particular journal

  1. Go to the Library’s homepage: http://library.ucf.edu/rosen
  2. Click on the Journal Search tab
  3. Enter the title of the journal in which the article can be found (e.g.: Journal of Popular Culture) and click on Search
  4. If the journal title is found, click on the title
  5. Click on one of the suggested database titles (Note: if you are off campus you will be prompted to log in with your library card # before proceeding)
  6. Navigate through the database to the correct article (by year, by volume and issue number, etc.). Once you bring up the full text of an article, you can read it online, print it out, or save it for future reference
  7. If one database fails to produce results, try one of the other suggested databases (if none of the suggested databases work, try Method 2 below or come to the library for more assistance)
  8. For more assistance finding online journals, Ask a Rosen Librarian

Method 2: UCF Library Catalog

This method can help you identify print and/or electronic holdings (if any) for a particular journal

  1. Go to the Library’s homepage: http://library.ucf.edu/rosen
  2. In the Catalog Search box, enter the title of the journal in which the article can be found (e.g.: Journal of Popular Culture), select Journal Title as the search type, and click Search
  3. If the journal title is found, there may be two catalog records, one for the e-journal (marked by an icon with a red e) and one for the print version:

    • If the journal is part of the UCF online collection, the e-journal catalog record will feature a hyperlink that will take you to that journal's online holdings. If you are off campus, you will be prompted to log in with your library card number. (For more information about online journals, see Method 1 above.)
  4. If the journal is part of the UCF print collection, the print record will include Holdings information, indicating which issues we have in the library:

    • If the journal is located at Rosen (the catalog record will say Rosen Periodicals), you will need to come to the Rosen Library and photocopy the article you need. Journals are for in-library use only; you cannot check them out.

    • If the journal is at the main campus (or another branch campus) library, you may go there to get it or you may request a copy of the article through interlibrary loan.
  5. For more assistance using the UCF library catalog, Ask a Rosen Librarian

Method 3: Hospitality & Tourism Complete Database

This method may lead you to the article you are looking for, as well as other articles on the same topic.

  1. Go to the Library’s homepage: http://library.ucf.edu/rosen
  2. Click on the Database Locator tab and then choose the Hospitality subject area
  3. Click on Hospitality & Tourism Complete to enter the database (Note: if you are off campus you will be prompted to login in with your library card number before proceeding)
  4. Enter the title of the article, choose TI Title from the select a field drop-down menu, and click Search
  5. Click on the full-text link, if listed, for the appropriate article; if there is no full-text link associated with that article, click on the "Get Full Text" button and follow steps 5-7 of Method 1 above
  6. If the article does not appear in the database, try Method 1 or Method 2 above
  7. For more assistance using the Hospitality & Tourism Complete Database, Ask a Rosen Librarian

Method 4: Funworld Website

This method can help you locate readings from Funworld magazine.

Published by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), Funworld magazine is a popular choice for course readings. While the library carries Funworld in print and has back issues to 2001, Funworld articles from 2003-present are also available online. Here’s how to find them:

  1. Go to the Funworld website: http://www.funworldmagazine.com
  2. Click on Archives on the left side menu
  3. Click directly into the issue and then into the appropriate article
  4. You can now read the article online or print it out
  5. For more assistance navigating the Funworld website, Ask a Rosen Librarian

Other Methods: Websites, Interlibrary Loan

Other ways to find the full text of an article include:

Checking the Journal’s Web Site: As with Funworld magazine, a publisher will sometimes provide full-text of a journal or selected articles online. UCF may also have full-text privileges from a journal’s web site and the information has not yet been entered into the catalog or online journal subscription list. Use an Internet search engine (e.g., Google or Google Scholar) to search for the journal title or the complete citation.

Requesting the Article through Interlibrary Loan: If the journal that the article appears in is not subscribed to in any form at the University of Central Florida Libraries, it may still be possible to obtain the article through the libraries' Interlibrary Loan System. When you submit an article request, the Interlibrary Loan Department routes it to one of more than 9000 other participating libraries. If your request is filled, you will receive an electronic copy of the article through your Interlibrary Loan Account. In most cases, it takes just a few days to receive an article via Interlibrary Loan. Visit the UCF Libraries' Interlibrary Loan web page for more information or see our Rosen Research Guide about Interlibrary Loan.
