Lost, Damaged or Stolen Materials

Until Library materials are returned and received at the UCF Libraries, they are the responsibility of the borrower. Credit for return will be given when the material is checked in at UCF Libraries Circulation Services. Materials returned to a non-UCF Library or any other facility remain the responsibility of the borrower until they are received at the UCF Library and checked in.

All materials which have been lost, damaged or stolen should be reported immediately to the Circulation Desk. If the Material is overdue by more than 30 days it is automatically assumed lost.

Patrons will be billed for the replacement cost of lost or stolen items. In the case of damaged items, patrons will be billed for repair costs. If a lost item is found and returned, the book bill will be taken off the patron's account and overdue fines for the item will be billed to the borrower. The UCF Library will not accept the return of "Lost" Library materials more than 30 days after payment has been made to the library, i.e. a refund of payment will only be available up to 30 days after payment to the Library. After that point we will not accept return of the item(s) accept as a donation. Return of items for which the debt has been transferred to University Collections will not be accepted in the Library at any time before or after payment.

Library overdue fines and book bills for lost, damaged, or stolen items can be paid by cash (exact cash on weekends), check, or UCF Smart Card at the Circulation Desk in the Library. Make checks payable to the UCF Libraries.

Student, Special Borrowers, Community Borrower, and other patron debts will be transferred to University Collections under the following circumstances:

  • Patron owes a total balance of $100 or more and for whom a part all of that balance is more than 180 days past due.
  • Special circumstances at the discretion of the Circulation Department Head or Library Administration.

At this point that UCF Libraries will no longer accept payment for the debt or accept the return of "Lost" items included in that debt.

Note: Payment for library fines can be made with cash, check, or with you UCF ID (purse 1 and 2). Monday-Thursday: Register's are shut down for the day an hour before closing. Friday: Register's are shut down for the day at 3pm. Sunday: Register's are shut down for the day an hour before closing also no change will be given out on Sunday; Exact cash only.
