Paintings Representing the Negro Baseball Leagues
Lou Grant, himself a talented baseball player, first attended Negro League games as a child in the 1930s and 1940s. These paintings do not represent actual players. At that time, Negro League players were not featured as sports heroes in photos on bubble gum cards or in newspapers and magazines. Uniforms varied greatly, even within the same team - colors of socks and styles of lettering on shirts were inconsistent. The artist has had to rely on his collected memories to create the images shown here. Mr. Grant was a freelance graphic designer 1960- 1997 and began painting full time in 1998.
