		<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head> 
		<p>Established in 1973, the 
		  <corpname>UCF Police Department</corpname> currently employs
		  approximately 60 sworn law enforcement officers, serving nearly 50,000 people
		  in an area of more than 2.2 square miles. The department maintains its own
		  Criminal Investigations Division and also runs a Community Relations Unit that
		  develops community outreach programs and assists with student activities and
		  orientations.</p>

			 <p>This series contains a number of documents related to the 
				<corpname>UCF Police Department</corpname>. Community involvement
				records contains a program from the 1995 Orange County Sherrif's Office Awards
				Ceremony. Correspondence includes a Staff Assembly Charter from 1977, a
				memorandum from 
				<persname>Ronald C. Seacrest</persname>, Director of Public safety
				and Police (1987), a letter of resignation from 1989, and a memorandum from the
				Office of the President (1990). The newspaper file contains clippings relating
				to police activities both on campus and in the community. Training contains two
				undated training manuals and one evaluation form. University memorabilia
				consists of several campus maps, programs from awards ceremonies, and parking
				and traffic information. Photograph negatives may also be found in this
				series.</p>
