The records were transferred to non-current records storage by the Department of Nursing, and then from there to Special Collections University Archives in 2007.
Paper contents were removed from metal-strip binders and placed in pH-neutral folders. Folders were placed in pH-neutral boxes. Transparencies were sleeved in polyester sleeves. Paper (metal) clips were removed and replaced with plastic clips. Rubber bands were removed.
The entire collection is open for research.

The Department of Nursing at Florida Technological University (now the University of Central Florida) began in 1978 after a decade of attempts by university staff to implement a nursing program. According to the School of Nursing's mission statement, it seeks to provide accessible nursing education to undergraduates and graduates through scholarly research and personal experiences, with the purpose of assisting the community of Central Florida. Dean of Natural Sciences at FTU, Dr. Bernard Ostle, began searching for information for the processes required to start a Bachelor of Science program in Nursing in 1968. Subsequent university staff continued to appeal to the Florida State Board of Regents and Board of Nursing on the importance and necessity of a nursing program in Central Florida over the next ten years. In 1977, the request was granted, with implementation in September 1979. The first students of the BSN program at UCF graduated in 1981.
The nursing program has continued to evolve in its quest to educate students in Central Florida. In 1995, the Department of Nursing became the School of Nursing. As of July 1, 2007, the school became the College of Nursing, which is the university's eleventh college.
The materials are arranged in three series by topic. Each series is arranged alphabetically.
Series I: Program Founding, 1968-1978 contains documents on the process of founding the Department of Nursing at FTU (UCF), as well as the correspondence of the people who played an integral role in the execution of the program.
Series II: Administration, 1982-1987 contains meeting minutes of three committees organized to ensure the success of the nursing program at UCF.
Series III: Curriculum, 1979-1982 contains meeting minutes of the committees organized to create the curriculum of the BSN program at UCF, as well as copies of syllabi and forms pertinent to course organization.
This series contains the program planning documents created during the process of establishing a Baccalaureate program of Nursing at Florida Technological University (UCF). Advisory Committee Meeting minutes contain information on which personnel served on the nursing planning board, as well as the content of the meetings.
Planning documents include the correspondence between FTU and other universities and colleges, the Board of Regents, and interoffice memoranda on the success of other nursing schools in the state, and the potential success of one at FTU. Additionally, there are potential program budget requirements and program costs to students, as well as statistics for prospective students in Central Florida. Also included is correspondence between FTU and students, both military and non-military, seeking a nursing program at the university, and an original application form for the program. Newspaper clippings concerning the future of a nursing school at FTU, the success of other schools, and the announcement of the founding of the Department of Nursing, as well as the proposal that was accepted to initiate the program, the bylaws, and copies of the mission statement, are also contained in this series.
The Program Review Consultant's Report contains the information sent to the State University System of Florida concerning the proposed program-- an analysis of the number and types of nurses needed, a study of all nursing programs at the university level in Florida, and the recommendations for implementing a program at UCF. The Subcommittee Report contains memoranda sent to staff concerning what criteria the nursing students would have to meet in order to receive credit for nursing education earned at other colleges, as well as how credit would be awarded through the program at UCF.
This series contains the minutes of the three committees organized to ensure the success of the nursing program at UCF. The RN Task Force minutes concern primarily the questions on curriculum and awarding students credit for their courses. The Recruitment Committee minutes detail what means the Department of Nursing could use to recruit students to join the program, both those not currently enrolled and those enrolled at other colleges and universities. The Student/Faculty Committee minutes addresses concerns students have over curriculum, and faculty response to those concerns.
This series holds the minutes of the meetings held to finalize the nursing curriculum at Florida Technological University. This series also includes the program description, mission statement and philosophy, course syllabi and exam questions.
