		  Florida State Music Teachers Association is comprised of records from their
		  meetings dating as far back as 1935. There are the minutes, agendas,
		  newsletters and scores. It also has the bylaws and procedures, annual bulletin
		  reports and a few other small folders comprised of annual correspondence.

		<p>The Florida Teacher Music Association donated these materials to the
		  University of Central Florida Libraries, Special Collections and University
		  Archives in 1979.</p>

		<p audience="internal">In this collection, I organized everything
		  chronologically. I removed all the documents from their binders and folders. I
		  also removed the Florida Music Director journal which is catalogued in the
		  online catalog. All of the documents were placed in in acid free folders and
		  boxes. </p>

		<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head> 
		<p>The Florida State Music Teachers Association was founded in
		  Jacksonville in 1934 to encourage the study of music, to maintain teaching
		  standards and to advocate for its members. Governed by 
		<title render="italic">Roberts Rules of Order</title>, the Association's
		executive board comprises a president, president-elect, vice presidents,
		recording secretary, corresponding secretary, treasurer, district presidents
		and past presidents. Local organizations are grouped into nine districts each
		having its own governing officers. These local organizations are affiliated
		with the Florida State Association which is affiliated with the Music Teachers
		National Association Inc. </p>

		  <p>The records are arranged in three series by the organization of the
			 association.</p> 
		</arrangement> 
		<p>Series I: Florida Association, 1934-2009 holds procedures, bylaws,
		  directories, minutes, annual reports, correspondence and newsletters
		  documenting the activities of the association.</p> 
		<p>Series II: Local Associations, 1995-2007 holds agendas produced
		  annually by the local associations.</p> 
		<p> Series III: National Association, 1973-1974 holds scores submitted to
		  the National Association for the composer of the year competition.</p>
