Progress Energy Welcome Center - 2003

UCF broke ground Tuesday April 8, 2003 for the $4.4 million Progress Energy Student Welcome Center during a ceremony on the site. The 19,000-square-foot center was built on the site of the former Visitors Information Booth just southwest of Millican Hall, where Central Florida Boulevard meets Gemini Boulevard. The Visitors Information Booth has been temporarily relocated to the west student parking lot off Central Florida Boulevard and will eventually be moved to a permanent location on the campus. Opened in August of 2004, the Progress Energy Welcome Center is home to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology which allows Undergraduate Admissions to be 99 percent paperless. The paperless move was devised to revolutionize admissions business to allow for timelier and efficient application review process. Located within the facility is a 200-seat multipurpose room to host presentations, classes and a variety of other events. When visitors arrive, they pass through the Welcome Center atrium, which displays banners bearing the UCF Creed.
