University History
President Millican’s first requirement was to find a name for the university. He consulted community leaders, the Board of Regents and the State government until finally the Florida Board of Education approved the name, Florida Technological University, on February 1, 1966. In those early years, he devoted an extraordinary amount of time to explaining plans for FTU to community leaders and organizations who had so strongly advocated its creation.
