Concepts for this unit:

Before I start demonstrating how to search for books, I want to tell you a few things about the Library and the services the Library provides for students. When you enter the library, immediately on your left is the Circulation Department, that is where you would check out a book you would like to borrow. If you continue walking, you come to the Reference Desk. You can come to the Reference Desk as often as you like, as many times as you like, and ask as many questions as you like. This desk is staffed with the sole purpose of helping people find the information they need to do their research.

For distance students, which includes anybody not on campus, as well as people who might be in the Chemistry building, which is quite a few buildings from the Library, the "Ask A Librarian" service is a telephone reference assistance service and an Internet e-mail reference assistance service. You send us questions on the Internet or you pick up the phone and call us. Weekdays from 8-6 a librarian will be there on the phone to help you figure out which database is best for you. E-mails can be sent any hour of the day or night, but they will not be answered until the next morning. Additionally we have live chat reference service, called INFOch@t, currently is staffed six hours per day during the week. Again all of these links will be found off of the Library homepage, that's a real time chat service. I encourage you to try it out and use it.
