Higher Education Resources

Student I.D.: Obtain a student id immediately. Your UCF ID card shows Library ID. Several electronic resources and services require you to enter a valid, active Library ID number. It is activated the first time you borrow books in the Library. Alternative methods for activating the library ID number are found on the Library Services for Distance Learners page.

Remote access: Current students can gain access to the electronic databases to which UCF subscribes if they follow the directions found at Off Campus Access with EZ Proxy. For additional assistance, contact Ask a Librarian.

Books:

Books are arranged on the shelf in a Library of Congress classification system of letters and numbers. Circulating books on education topics are usually located on 3rd floor of the library. Reference books are on the 2nd floor.

Provides a highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators. This collection offers information on everything from children’s health and development to cutting-edge pedagogical theory and practice. The Professional Development Collection includes abstract and index coverage for nearly 450 well-known professional development titles, and searchable full text for nearly 360 journals covering the most current topics in the field of education.

Finding Journals in Library Catalog

The UCF Library Catalog is the most complete inventory of journals available from the Libraries and can inform you of the Libraries' past and current print subscriptions and the majority of our current online subscription.

Note:  The catalog does not contain information about the articles in the journals.  It will tell you if the library has a given volume or issue of a journal, but not about what articles were included.

Search Tips:

  • Enter any words that are likely to appear in association with the journal you want.
  • To search for words in a title, select Title Keyword then  enter word that would appear in the journal title.
  • To search by subject, select Subject Keyword and enter any words from a Library of Congress Subject Heading.
  • To search for journals by an organization, select Author Keyword then enter the name or parts of the name. 
  • Do NOT enter punctuation or articles (The, An, A).
  • To search for a phrase set Exact Phrase? to Yes.
  • For more tips, click on the .

  • To search by journal title, enter the first words in a title or a complete title. Do NOT enter the first word if it is an article (The, An, A).

Interlibrary Loan:

When UCF does not own the book, article, or other document needed by UCF students, faculty, or staff, the Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery Services Department (ILL) will try to obtain a copy of it from another library--usually within about 2 weeks. For additional information or for the electronic request forms go to Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Services.

World Wide Web Sources:

Search the Internet with caution. Remember that anyone can mount anything on the web! For instructions for searching the WWW, click <Untangle the Web> and follow the tutorial. For help developing a search strategy, click <Recommended Search Strategy for the Web (University of California, Berkeley)>. To use a subject directory, a popular search engine, a specialized search engine or a meta-search engine use <Internet Tools>.
