Opening Lines...

The Old Year has gone. Let the dead past bury its own dead. The New Year has taken possession of the clock of time. All hail the duties and possibilities of the coming twelve months!
-- Edward Payson Powell (1833-1915)

News & Notes...

Personnel Change

Jamie Conklin, who served as Adjunct Reference Librarian for the past two and half years, has left to accept a full-time position at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Jamie did excellent work for us, and we wish her well in her new position!
We do not yet know when we will be able to fill the vacant position, but we will do our best to continue to maintain high levels of service in the interim.

Library Instruction / Tutorial Requests

Please note that we need to receive your requests for library instruction or tutorials prior to the start of the semester.
We hope you will consider utilizing a Rosen Library Research Tutorial and assigning the accompanying Quiz to your students as a graded assignment. All you need to do is let us know with which course(s) you'd like to use a Tutorial. We can suggest an appropriate Tutorial for each course, and we will simply ask that you decide on a due date and how many points to assign to the Quiz. That's all! We do the rest of the work, including compiling and grading the Quizzes. We can even supply you with suggested wording to add to your syllabus.
Ready to make your request(s)? Simply fill out our Instruction Request form or stop by and chat with us in person.

Course Reserves

Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to place materials on Reserve in the library, or online as electronic reserves, for your Spring course(s). We can inform you of your options and of any restrictions that may apply.

Looking for a good academic DVD or VHS program to show in class? Browse through our online list of DVD & VHS Titles, or stop by to take a look in person.

University Writing Center

We are pleased to report that the University Writing Center (UWC) plans to offer consultation hours in the Rosen Library again this Spring semester. The exact schedule has not been determined yet, but the number of hours offered will be the same as in the Fall semester. Please encourage your students to take advantage of this service. You might even consider offering extra credit or other incentives to visit with a UWC consultant.

Diversity Initiatives

One of President Hitt's Five Goals is to "Become more inclusive and diverse." One way to contribute to this goal is to take advantage of some of the services of the Office of Diversity Initiatives (ODI). For example, a representative from ODI can speak to your class about inclusive communication, recruitment, or other relevant topics. If interested, contact ODI at 407-823-6479 or by e-mailing
