To honor veterans, the University and the Libraries will be closed on Veterans Day, Thursday 11/11.

The origin of Veterans Day: November 11, 1918, Armistice Day, the end of World War I. Credo Reference, which contains the Holidays, Festivals, and Celebrations of the World Dictionary, explains that the change to Veterans Day took place in 1951.
In Great Britain, the day was known as Poppy Day, when veterans distributed red poppies, which became a symbol for veterans in the poem In Flanders Field, written by a veteran, Canadian physician John McCrae.
