Never mistake knowledge for wisdom. One helps you make a living; the other helps you make a life.

News & Notes...

Proxy Changes

UCF Libraries has updated its proxy service — the service that allows users to access articles, databases, and other licensed materials from off campus. The good news is that the sign-on process will be easier and will offer the option to sign in using the PID. The bad news is that some of your links to articles, streaming videos, and other resources (listed in your Canvas courses, syllabi, assignments, etc.) may not work. Please contact us if you run across any bad links and we can help you update them!

Interlibrary Loan

Find a book or article that the UCF Libraries does not own? Remember that you can still acquire such materials through Interlibrary Loan. All you have to do is set up an Interlibrary Loan account and submit your requests, and we'll notify when your material is available for download (if digital) or pickup (if hard copy).

Writing Center

Just a friendly reminder that the University Writing Center (UWC) is offering writing assistance on the Rosen campus again this semester. Please encourage your students to take advantage of this service and to schedule appointments early.

Writing experts are available in the Rosen Library study rooms:

  • Mondays, 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Students are encouraged to visit http://uwc.cah.ucf.edu (and click on the TutorTrac logo) or call 407-823-2197 to set up an appointment. Walk-ins without appointments will also be helped, if availability permits. The UWC also offers remote consultations by phone, chat, or Adobe Connect.

Among the recent acquisitions are:

  • Confessions of an Event Planner (now DVD and streaming)
  • Five Star Hospitality (DVD and streaming)
  • Gen Y Decoded: Insights and Tactics for Leaders (DVD)
  • Handling the Difficult Customer (streaming)
  • Managing Change in Tough Times (streaming)
  • Performance Appraisals: Getting Results (DVD)
  • Starting a Franchise: The StartUp Experience (streaming)
  • Supervisory Skill Builders (9 short programs on topics such as leadership, time mgmt., communication, training, team building, etc.) (now on DVD)
  • and many more!

Our Video Title List has been updated to reflect all of our DVD, VHS, & Streaming Video offerings. The list includes clickable links that you can use to access the full catalog record for any title, as well as a printable Excel spreadsheet of all titles. New acquisitions are marked as such so that you can quickly scan for new titles only, if you wish.

If you are ready to try some of the streaming videos, which can be easily assigned to students through the sharing of a link or by embedding in Canvas, check out our Rosen Video Collection guide. It lists the streaming videos by category and provides some instructions to help you get started. As always, let us know if you need any assistance!

New Books

As a reminder, our New Items guide is frequently updated. It lists new books received in different subject areas. Each entry includes a cover image, a short description, and a link to the online catalog for more information. Just use the tabs near the top of the page to navigate among the subjects.
