World Tourism Day is celebrated each year on September 27th. "Its purpose," says the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), "is to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value." This year's theme Tourism & Sutainable Energy: Powering Sustainable Development, "aims to highlight tourism's role in a brighter energy future."
