"a virtual place where visitors can discover what Central Florida was like before theme
parks and the space program. Diaries and letters describe the region and how people
survived day-by-day in this extreme and rugged environment. Maps, photographs, and postcards
illustrate how the region looked in the early years and how it changed over time. Voters’
registration and funeral records and city directories provide demographic information
that makes the picture of the Central Florida settler come into focus."

"The materials presented here are a small portion of the papers of Dr. Carita Doggett
Corse, Director of the Florida Federal Writers' Project from its inception in 1935 until
1942. The 15 linear feet of files consist mainly of typescripts for the WPA Writers'
Project for the state of Florida. The information in the files represents writers' efforts
during the 1930's and the early 1940's. Corse maintained personal typescript copies
of the writers' stories, interviews and research, as well as other handwritten notes
that are not part of the WPA files found in several other Florida libraries."
