SciFinder Scholar 2006 for Windows (98/2000/XP/Me/NT4.0)

  1. Double-click on "SFS2006.exe" to install the SciFinder software.
  2. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  3. Copy "site.prf" to the SFXCHLR folder on your computer.

SciFinder Scholar for Mac OS X (10.2, 10.3 and 10.4)

  1. Double-click "scholar-osx.dmg" to mount SciFinder Scholar (a Desktop Volume containing the SciFinder Scholar Application Package).
  2. Open the SciFinder Scholar Volume if it does not auto-open.
  3. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar Application Package (~21.9 MB) to your Applications folder.
  4. Eject (Unmount) the desktop SciFinder Scholar Volume.
  5. (Optional) Create a "SciFinder Scholar" alias for your dock or desktop.
  6. Copy "site.prf" to the SFXCHLR folder on your computer.

Discovery Studio™ ViewerLite

Discovery Studio™ Viewers allow you to view 3D molecular models for structure results.

  1. Double-click on "ViewerLite50_4cas.exe" to install ViewerLite.
  2. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  3. After the ViewerLite install is complete, install the patch.
  4. Double-click on "ViewerLitePro5_patch-1.zip" and extract all the files to the ViewerLite folder, "C:\Program Files\Accelrys\ViewerLite50".
  5. When prompted whether to over-write files select "Yes".

Off Campus Access with VPN

To use SciFinder Scholar from off campus you will need to use UCF's Virtual Private Network. The UCF Network Operations Center provides basic instructions for VPN. To use VPN for Library resources, follow these modified instructions. Links below open in a new window.

  1. Create a VPN account for yourself as instructed on the VPN Help page. You will need to login with your PID and your myUCF password, fill out a form, and pick a VPN user name and password. Once you have done that, move on to step two.
  2. Configure your computer to use VPN. Several options are listed on the VPN Help page. The Library recommends either of these two:
  3. Create the "Connection Entry" with host address vpn3030.ucf.edu with name 'library' and password 'vpn3030'.
