Gifts & Book Sale Policy

The UCF Libraries welcomes gifts of books, CDs and DVDs from interested donors. Such gifts often provide the library with valuable materials which otherwise might be difficult to obtain. To realize the maximum benefits from gifts, the following guidelines are intended to inform prospective donors of the types of gifts most beneficial to the library and the circumstances under which they can be accepted.

  • Gifts should be dropped-off or mailed to the UCF Libraries, as the library does not have a vehicle or staff to pick-up books. However, under special circumstances pick-ups may be arranged.
  • Normally, the UCF libraries accepts all books, manuscripts, music CDs and DVDs offered as gifts. Prospective donors are requested not to place any restrictions on gifts, their use, or disposition.
  • Donors that provide the library with complete name and address are acknowledged in writing. However, the library cannot appraise any gifts received. We do acknowledge the number of items received and the month donations were received.
  • The Head of Acquisitions & Collection Services, in consultation with faculty and other librarians, considers each gift received and determines its appropriateness to the UCF Libraries collection. All books selected for the collection are cataloged. Books and other materials not selected for the collection are placed in the UCF Libraries Book Sale.
  • All materials donated become the property of the UCF Libraries and cannot be returned.
  • Under no circumstance will the UCF Libraries assign a dollar value to a gift.
  • Persons wishing to donate to the UCF Libraries are encouraged to call Natasha White (407) 823-1424 for information and directions to John C. Hitt Library's receiving area.
  • The UCF Libraries is particularly interested in obtaining rare or other out-of-print works of a scholarly nature. First editions and limited editions of works by renowned authors are of particular interest for the libraries collection.
  • The UCF Libraries is not interested in print runs of journals or older magazines, or old media including LPs, audio cassettes, and VHS tapes.
