  • Walter Gaudnek's Recent Work:
Book Arts and Red Cross over Africa

Picture of Walter Gaudnek in working on one of his paintings The University of Central Florida Libraries Special Collections and University Archives Department announces the opening of an exhibit featuring Walter Gaudnek's recent works.  Besides displaying his recent book creations, the exhibit will feature work to be shown at the Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte Contemporanea Florence, Italy, December 1-9, 2007.

Gaudnek’s work for the Biennial is called Red Cross over Africa, a nine panel tapestry design, acrylic on canvas.  The library exhibit will include digital prints and sketches of the tapestry, which is 208 cm X 292 cm.  The work is the result of Gaudnek’s deeply felt concern over the number of deaths in Africa from AIDS.  The artist asks all of us to visit Kwanzaa Keepers web site and find a clock that displays the count of dead from AIDS.  After the Biennial, the tapestry will be sold and the proceeds will go the Red Cross.

On April 18, the university and Central Florida communities are invited to hear Dr. Gaudnek talk about his work at 8:30 am, 11:30 am and 2:00 pm. on the fifth floor of the main library, Orlando campus, in front of Room 501.

    The UCF Libraries Legacy

Have you considered making a gift to the UCF Libraries in honor or in memory of a friend, loved one or former professor?

Gifts, such as used books and media, area a great opportunity for you to support your UCF Libraries.  Planned and memorial gifts are always a great option as well as donating for the purchase of particular items for the development of our library collection.  Those items, once cataloged, will be added to our collection, and will always carry a book plate in honor or memory of those you choose at the time of donation.  Cash donations can be also made by going to the Online Giving page and completing the easy form.  In addition, remember that all gifts to the UCF Libraries and the university are tax deductible.

If you would like more information concerning donations to the UCF Libraries, please contact the office of Library Development and Dwain Teague at 407-823-5982.

When was the last time you visited the library?

The UCF main library is open to the public and the UCF community seven days a week, except university holidays.  More information regarding hours and holiday closures may be found on the Libraries web site.  For more information, please call 407-823-2564.
