Over 100 guests gathered for Illuminating Love at the UCF Libraries

This past Valentine’s Day the Special Collections and University Archives Department in UCF Libraries hosted a lecture by Dr. Margaret Ann Zaho, Visiting Instructor of Art History, on the late medieval French poem, The Romance of the Rose.  While our guests enjoyed their heart shaped cookies and pink punch, they listened to Dr. Zaho’s interpretation of this wonderful poem, which we are delighted to have as part of our ever growing collection.

After Dr. Zaho’s enticing lecture, all guests were invited to the fifth floor for our exhibit of illuminated manuscripts facsimiles.  These manuscripts contain text which is supplemented with the addition of illustrations, such as decorated initials, miniatures and borders.  The exhibit covers three major categories reflecting medieval life, Love/Honor, Faith/Devotion and Fantasy/Myth.

More information about this event and many others can be found on our Special Collections Web site.
