Mission, Values, Vision

 

Mission Statement

The University of Central Florida Library provides information resources and services to the University community in a manner that supports and enriches the institution’s education, research and service missions.

Values Statement

The values and principles that guide the Library's decisions and actions include a commitment to:

  • The best possible services and collections for patrons and employees;
  • Respect, fairness, and integrity in all interactions;
  • Intellectual freedom, fair and equitable access to information, American Library Association's Bill of Rights, ethical business practices, copyright principles, confidentiality;
  • Diversity and inclusiveness of people, information resources and services;
  • Innovation, creativity, risk-taking, initiative, problem-solving.

Vision Statement

The University of Central Florida Library performs a central role of adding value to information for the academic community by creatively improving and providing information resources and services. The Library strives to create an environment that encourages the pursuit of intellectual endeavors and the creation of new knowledge. The Library cultivates a workplace that nurtures cooperation, communication, harmony, and personal growth.

The Library affirms its mission, vision, and values by focusing on:

Organization & Leadership: Building an organizational structure and processes that anticipate and accommodate change and growth, encouraging feedback at all levels.

Information Resources:Being the gateway to information for the University community; providing a resource-rich environment; maximizing access to a broad range of diverse materials in appropriate formats.

Service Orientation:Exhibiting a commitment by the Library and its employees to excellent user services. Establishing policies, practices, training, and staffing with a candid examination of user needs and with an ideal of accurate, courteous, timely, and seamless service.

Education: Assuming a leadership role in the promotion of information literacy, emphasizing instruction in accessing and evaluating information.

Technology: Incorporating proven and emerging technologies to provide dependable systems infrastructure and to facilitate information access and delivery.

Outreach: Establishing cooperative and collaborative partnerships on campus; with libraries; academic institutions; local, state, regional and international organizations; and vendors.

Human Resources: Enriching the work experiences of library employees.

Physical Facilities: Providing a comfortable, secure, user-centered environment with facilities and equipment conducive to work, research, study, and collaborative learning.
